“Spider-man, Spider-man, does whatever a spider can…" If you remember this theme song from the television cartoon, then you’re bound to see this movie -- even if you’re not into Spider-man anymore. Don’t make me answer the question “Why?" because you already know why!
Principal photography on the live-action action-adventure Spider-Man began January 2001. The start date made a production and post-production schedule that enabled the film's creators to realize their ambitious vision for Spider-Man and bring Marvel's worldwide comic book icon to life.
Unless you’ve been hiding in a vacuum cleaner with all the creepy-crawlies you zoop up, then you know that the film centers on student Peter Parker who, after being bitten by a radioactive spider, gains superhuman strength and the spider-like ability to cling to any surface. He vows to dedicate his life to fighting crime. Click on over to the Marvel comics newsgroup at rec.arts.comics.marvel.universe and don’t forget to check out

Steve DeSpirito, comic book fan and writer/creator of
Taboo The Comic is looking forward to the movie’s release. “I'm planning on seeing the Spider-man movie because this is Marvel's first REAL attempt to push one of their upper-echelon characters to the silver screen, using proper funds and celebrities," Steve says. “I prefer Batman over Spider-man because the Batman/Bruce Wayne character has more complexity. Spider-man runs into the same problems as Superman - an alter-ego that is far less interesting than the hero. In the case of Batman, you could very well do a movie about Bruce Wayne and his issues and leave the Bat out. Not the case with Spidey."
Getting back to the music. Oscar-nominated composer Danny Elfman will score the soundtrack. Elfman established himself in music in the mid-1970s when he and his older brother started a musical troupe that became known as "Oingo-Boingo." The L.A.-based band continued to compose eclectic rock music during the 1980s, some of which was used on soundtracks for films like Weird Science. Elfman formed a friendship with young director Tim Burton, a fan of the band, and went on to complete his first orchestral film score for Burton's Pee-Wee's Big Adventure in 1985.
Jason Sica, a bartender, anxiously states, “I’m dying to see it. A super hero film made with today’s special effects. The movie industry is trying to ride a wave of comic book heroes; back in the day they put out a movie called The Punisher. They also made Captain America. Both blew. Why? Because either the budget or technology was not ready to produce that which was required by comic book fans to satisfy their desire for what they've conjured in their heads all those years of reading and dreaming."
Starring Tobey Maguire (Cats & Dogs), Willem Defoe, Kirsten Dunst, James Franco, Rosemary Harris, Cliff Robertson and J.K. Simmons, Spider-Man is helmed by Sam Raimi (The Gift, For Love of the Game, A Simple Plan), a self-confessed fanatic of the cagey, web-spinning hero. Laura Ziskin (As Good As it Gets, To Die For, Pretty Woman) and Oscar nominee Ian Bryce (Almost Famous, Saving Private Ryan, Twister) produce. Avi Arad (X-Men, Blade) serves as executive producer.
The screenplay for Spider-Man is written by David Koepp (Stir of Echoes, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Jurassic Park). The creative team includes Oscar- nominated director of photography Don Burgess (Cast Away, What Lies Beneath, Forrest Gump), production designer Neil Spisak (The Gift, For Love of the Game, Heat) and costume designer James Acheson, who has won Academy Awards® for Restoration, Dangerous Liaisons and The Last Emperor.
