"The Mummy Returns"
  05/01/2001

"I can't wait to see it! The special effects look amazing!" screams Robin Schulz, an avid fan of films dealing with Egyptology and science fiction.

The Mummy Returns is the latest in the series of motion picture adventures which began with the 1999 worldwide smash, The Mummy. The Mummy Returns will be released nationwide on May 4, 2001.

"We are excited to work with Del Taco (the second largest Mexican quick service chain in the U.S.) to promote The Mummy Returns," said Beth Goss, senior vice president, national promotions, Universal Pictures. "Del Taco's consumer demographics are a terrific match for
our film's target audience. With our powerful combined marketing efforts, consumers can look forward to an exciting promotional period leading up to the release of the film."

Del Taco's Instant Win Sweepstakes runs from April 18th through May 29, 2001. Customers
will have the opportunity to win over 450,000 prizes, including free food, a walk-on role in an upcoming Universal film, admission tickets to Universal Studios Hollywood and an assortment of The Mummy Returns merchandise (T-shirts, hats, mini-posters and interactive Gameboy cartridges). There will also be an opportunity to win a trip to the premiere of Universal Pictures' upcoming action adventure film, The Scorpion King, starring The Rock, which is currently in production and will open next year. You can find the nearest Del Taco location by going here: http://www.deltaco.com/location.htm.

Del Taco will be supporting the promotion with significant dedicated television advertising as well as with in-store point of sale materials throughout their stores in California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Missouri and Georgia. The in-store point of sale items include: The Mummy Returns themed cups with instant win peel-off game pieces, trayliners, banners, standees and drive-thru signage.

"The Mummy Returns is Del Taco's first major motion picture cross promotion in the history
of the chain," said Tim Hackbardt, vice president of marketing, Del Taco. "Teaming with a
proven property like The Mummy and offering over 450,000 instant win prizes is a combination destined to mummify our competition's sales and continue our streak of increasing market share."

Brendan Frasier reprises his role in The Mummy Returns as adventurer Rick O'Connell, and is joined by returning co-stars Rachel Weisz, John Hannah, Arnold Vosloo, Oded Fehr and Patricia Velasquez. They are joined by newcomer Freddie Boath and WWF superstar The Rock as The Scorpion King. The new film is again written and directed by Stephen Sommers and produced by James Jacks and Sean Daniel.

The Mummy Returns is set in 1935, 10 years after the events of the first film. Rick O'Connell (Frasier) is now married to Evelyn (Weisz), and the couple have settled in London, where they are raising their 9-year-old son Alex (played by screen newcomer Freddie Boath). When a chain of events finds the corpse of Imhotep (Vosloo) resurrected in the British Museum, the mummy Imhotep walks the earth once more, determined to fulfill his quest for immortality. But another force has also been set loose in the world…one born of the darkest rituals of ancient Egyptian mysticism, and even more powerful than Imhotep. When these two forces clash, the fate of the world will hang in the balance, sending the O'Connells on a desperate race to save the world from unspeakable evil, and rescue their son before it is too late.

Released on May 7, 1999 to a record-breaking opening weekend gross of $43.36 million, The
Mummy has taken in more than $414 million worldwide to date, making it the 8th biggest hit of 1999. It ranks 31st on the list of all-time box office champs. The Mummy has demonstrated terrific longevity and continues to perform exceptionally well on home video and DVD. The Mummy was the top-selling live home video action title of 1999, debuting at the top of the Billboard sales charts, where it held the number one spot for three consecutive weeks. In addition, The Mummy was the second best-selling DVD title of 1999, shipping more than one million units.

So gear up people! Let's see if The Mummy Returns can hold its own. See you there!
