Last article I discussed the popular campy television series “The Lost World." If you
missed it, it can be found in the archives (see bottom of page). I talked about the
description of the show and the fans. So many people wrote in regarding this series that
I opted to make the article a two-parter. Rumors about the show’s cancellation have
branched off to different rumors, which you’ll read about below! Oh, and what’s the deal
with Marguerite Krux and flipping channels?
Last time, I also posted a question about what you thought of the episode called “The
Witch’s Calling" but people emailed and responded in the newsguy.writers.scificapsule
newsgroup that they had different favorite episodes. I’m interested in hearing which The
Lost World episode from each season is! If you want to take part, you may respond on the
newsgroup newsguy.writers.scificapsule.
And so, we continue on with your thoughts!
- How and when did you become of fan of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World?
- Who is your favorite character and why?
- What have you heard about the rumor that the show is being cancelled?
- If you could be any character, new or old in the show, who would you choose
and why?
Mamy “was flipping through the channels, the episode was Time after Time, and I was on the
phone with my friend and she said that I had to watch it and ever since I've been hooked."
Favorite character: “Marguerite (Season three) because she's so pretty and dangerous at
the same time. She also still has some mystery to her. And you can't forget how cute she
and Roxton are together." Interesting twist on the cancellation rumor: “I didn't hear
anything. All I heard is that the non-Australian actors will only be in a few episodes."
Shawn, who has dabbled in writing before, “became a fan of TLW as a number of fans call
it: in 1999 when the first season aired in syndication in my area. I had not heard
anything of it; hadn't been planning to watch it; following pre-production, anything of
that sort, I was simply flipping channels, and came across a show which had a ‘lizard man’
(Tribune) on the screen. Being a long time fan of all things Sci-fi, I found it
interesting, and continued to watch as six explorers thwarted this ‘lizard man’, and
looked good doing it. From then on, I was hooked. I would have to say my favorite
character would be Marguerite played by Rachel Blakely (Neighbours, Tribe, Mr. Nice Guy).
She brings so much dynamic to the show with her character, a good bad girl. There is room
for a lot of speculation as to what the character did or was involved in in the past from
hints throughout the series. Her charm, knowing that she may not always do the right
thing, her beauty, all these things and more, are why I would have to chose her as my
favorite. There is no current rumor that I am aware of that the show is being cancelled.
There were a lot of worried fans over whether TLW would get a third season, or be
cancelled after the second. It came right down to the line before anything was publicly
known as to TLW's future, but with a great deal of fan support, and quite possibly fans
within The Powers That Be, it did get renewed for a third season, and is currently running
it in syndication.
Rumor has it that a decision hadn't been made so close to the point of no return, that they actually had to beginning filming the third season late. As far as
TLW getting renewed for a fourth season, there have been a lot of new fans jumping onboard
the TLW trailer, due in part to the fact that the first season has only just started
airing in Australia, where a great deal of the cast is originally from, Chances for a
fourth season are looking quite well, and the only current rumor I know of, is that TLW
may have already been guarantied a fourth season. Which character would Shawn be (Shawn
takes us for a loop on this one!)? “Oh boy, well, I would be Summerlee because then I
could lecture young sprouts because I have a white beard, and glasses, therefore I am
wise! But then I suppose I would die...hmmm.
Ok I would be Roxton. He's a man's man;
he's always going off on adventures, he always seems to have a gun in his hands or nearby
and he has somewhat of a relationship with Marguerite. But then there is that whole thing
about shooting my brother. Sheesh. Well then I guess I would be Marguerite: I get to be
devious and cunning and always have clean clothes? Yippeee! Oh but there is that whole
deal about nearly getting killed by strange people who knew me in London, with the
bullets, and the ouch, ouch, and all. I know! Challenger, a man of science, a mature man,
a 1914 MacGyver, yes that's it! "Hahahahaha," what's that? Oh yes, The London Zoological
Society laughing at me when I told them about my dino's. Let's see...Veronica, a
beautiful woman, a Tarzan of the female species, a great treehouse… Oh yes, parents
missing, can't find them, if I can't find them I can't leave the plateau, why oh why… I
guess there's always Ned, yes good ole' Ned Malone, I, I uhm, what is it I do again, oh
yes, get hit on the head....ouch! Going off hunting for dinosaurs in the early 20th
century with people I don't know, to a place I don't know, with natives I don't know, for
who knows how long… isn't as fun as it's made out to be."
N.A. Noteman of Missouri became a fan of TLW about a year ago. “I happened to be channel
surfing one Saturday morning and came upon it. In Missouri, USA, they show TLW twice--once on Sunday evening and then they air it again Saturday morning. I fell in love
with the adventure, and the romance. What can I say I'm a romantic at heart!" Can you
guess N.A.’s favorite character?! “Marguerite Crux. She is so mysterious! I keep coming
back to see if they let any more secrets about her life come out and they do. I have all
these puzzle pieces about her life but they don't fit together. AND that's why I like her
they best! I want to know more about her and then I don't I love a good mystery and
Marguerite Crux is the Queen of the Mystery!" Regarding the cancellation rumors, “The
only rumors I hear are what I read on The Lost World Bulletin Board." N.A.’s character
choice? “Why Marguerite of course! I would get to kiss Roxton, plus Marguerite is so
witchy and she usually gets away with it."
Chantal P., who has a website about Marguerite and Roxton, has been a fan since the beginning of the first
season. “Although I haven't seen the TNT movie, I started with the episodes. I was
flipping through the channels and I saw the episode ‘Nectar’ and I really liked it because
it sounded like a great adventure show and it had a bit supernatural (which I love) and of
course the lead (characters) seemed to have great chemistry. I tuned every week and
became more and more hooked, especially after re-runs, when I got to really know the show
more." Marguerite Krux is Chantal’s favorite character. Surprise! “She is mysterious,
witty and sharp and those remarks she makes... And she is played by an awesome actor.
Rachel Blakely can act so well; she is great. Off course, I also love William Snow. He
is really handsome." As for the cancellation rumor, Chantal adds, “Nothing has been
confirmed or denied as far as I know, but I think there's a possibility for a 4th season.
The ratings are going great. I am keeping my fingers crossed anyway :) “ Chantal would
also choose to be a NEW character if she were going to be in the show. “I would like to
be a new character, perhaps someone who helps the explorers from a raptor or apemen attack
and later on becomes the explorers’ friends. Just to be able to work with that crew would
be the best thing ever. If I get 30 seconds in a scene with Rachel or Will or Jennifer or
Peter or David or Michael Sinelnikoff, it would be one of the greatest experiences."
JanJ4
caught the show by accident (while channel surfing) during the first season. “Roxton was being chased by dinosaurs
and since I have always been fascinated by dinosaurs I began to watch the show. Lord John
Roxton is my favorite character. He is compassionate, loyal to his friends, kind and he
is very good looking! I have heard nothing about the show being cancelled. I would love to
be the character of Marguerite. Not only is she beautiful but she has the undivided
attention of Lord Roxton."
Sarah also has a TLW website. “I got into
the Lost World last January. It was a Saturday night and I was sick. I was flipping
through the channels when I saw a preview for the Lost World. I thought it looked
interesting so I watched it. What really hooked me, though, was the chemistry between
Roxton and Marguerite and the banter that went on between the two. I liked the love-hate
relationship that existed between the two at the time and that you could tell that the two
were interested [in each other] and liked each other but they wouldn't admit it. My
favorite character is Marguerite because I've always enjoyed strong female characters.
She's smart, can take care of herself, [is] witty, independent, can handle herself in a
fight and I love her sarcastic comments. She also always keeps me guessing as to what her
past really is, and what her big secret is and what she's going to do next. She's a
complex character with many layers. The rumor that the show is being cancelled, is just
that, a rumor. Newline (the American distributor) has ordered a fourth season, but
they’re waiting to see if other syndication markets will renew it as well. So right now
it's a wait and see situation." If Sarah could be any character, she would “want to be
Marguerite. Mainly for the reasons I stated why she's my favorite character. I like
being a little mystery to the people around me and I like being sarcastic."
“Greetings from Germany!" says Sven Milbradt. Sven saw TLW on Pro7-German television from
the beginning. His favorite actress / character on the show is Rachel Blakely as
Margurite Krux “because she is a really great actress. I saw her on ‘Tales of the South
Seas’ too." And why does Sven choose to be Lord Roxton? “Because he can kiss Rachel!"
Josephine has a TLW
website as well. “I became a fan after I watched ‘Nectar (season 1). I found the show while flipping the channels and
I just got hooked. My favorite character is Ned Malone because he is an interesting
character, good looking, and adds a good variety to the cast." (Hey! Finally someone who
didn’t choose Marguerite as the favorite character!) Regarding the cancellation rumors:
“I heard that is almost 100% sure that there WILL be a fourth season according to a
trustworthy site, message board and newsletter." Josephine does, however, choose
Marguerite if she were going to play a character on the show because “it would be
interesting to be someone so different from myself."
