“Bloooooood…" grinned Milla Jovovich into the microphone at the Fangoria Horror Convention
in New York on January 5, 2002. The audience, packed with horror and science fiction
movie fans, cheered Milla on. She was, of course, talking about her upcoming movie due to
be released in April called “Resident Evil."
Based on the popular video game series, “Resident Evil" is an action-packed, science
fiction thriller starring Milla Jovovich (“The Fifth Element"), Michelle Rodriguez (“The
Fast and the Furious") and Eric Mabius (“Cruel Intentions") in a battle of good and evil,
human versus computer, the living against the Undead.
The film was written by Paul Anderson – you may recognize his name from other popular
films such as “Mortal Kombat" and “Event Horizon". Paul took the stage along with Milla
to answer the fans’ questions about the upcoming “Resident Evil."
According to Paul, as of the convention date, a rating has not yet been issued. He is
hoping for an NC-17 but it may get bumped up to an R rating. Lots of… “Bloooooood…."
Milla was all smiles and told the tale of how she won the part of the character, Alice.
She plays the game Resident Evil with her 13 year old brother. She said she constantly
says things like, “No, go through THIS door!" or “Turn here!" Having heard that the game
was going to be made into a feature film, she approached Paul herself. And hence, she won
the role!
For all you die hard fans and about-to-become-fans, below is a synopsis of the movie.

Something terrible is lurking in the Hive, a vast underground genetic research facility
run by the Umbrella Corporation – a faceless bio-engineering conglomerate. A deadly viral
outbreak occurred just hours earlier. Alice (MILLA JOVOVICH) and Rain (MICHELLE
RODRIGUEZ) must lead fellow commandos to isolate the virus that has wiped out Umbrella’s
entire research staff and brought them back as the ravenous, zombie-like Undead. One bite
or scratch from an Undead causes infection and worse, instant transformation into one of
them.
Alice and the military task force have three hours to trap the virus inside the Hive
before the Undead threaten to overrun the Earth. The team soon discovers that the virus
had somehow been released into the complex. In response, the Red Queen – a vast
supercomputer that controls and monitors the Hive – has turned homicidal, killing the
staff.
To access the Red Queen, Alice and her team must pass through a series of increasingly
horrifying obstacles in the maze-like hive. These include deadly lasers, mutant dogs and
a vast specimen room where Alice witnesses the results of Umbrella’s evil experimental
research. Alice soon discovers the Undead are the ghastly result of Umbrella’s latest
project gone awry -- the T-virus.
Initially designed to combat ageing and fight nerve-based diseases, the T-virus had the
ability to reanimate dead cells. But before it got the chance to be used for good, the
virus had been purposefully freed into the air by an unknown saboteur. But who would do
such a thing?
To contain the leak, the Red Queen had sealed the Hive. Confronting the giant computer,
Rain demands that she guide them to the surface. The Red Queen agrees, but insists that
no one who is infected will be allowed to escape. Unless of course, they can find the
Anti-Virus. Standing in the way is a genetically mutated experiment that is a now a
vicious creature known as “the Licker," bent on destroying them all. The Licker’s
strength increases with each slaying of an Undead –making the team’s job even more deadly.
Will the team defeat the Red Queen and find the anti-virus in time? Or are they doomed to
turn Undead? Who, if anyone, will escape the evil Hive alive?
Paul Anderson mentioned at the convention that he’s interested in possibly doing a feature
film based off the game Grand Theft Auto. And Milla, who also sings, said she is planning
to make singing appearances this year. Lots of good entertainment to watch out for!
