"The Truth is Still Out There"
  08/01/2001

Now that David Duchovny is off the X-Files for season 9, how are fans feeling about the long running show now that they’ll be Mulderless? I checked out the newsgroup alt.tv.x-files to see if the truth is out there.

Laura Capozzolla, in the thread “Short XF Season Survey," wrote the following about Season 7 when Mulder and Scully were in happy harmony with each other: “Season 7 was just mundane all around. No conflict (everybody liking, loving or respecting one another) whatsoever, slice of life type stories predominating, and Mulder/Scully "the duo" put me to sleep with their predictability… That's also why I liked the work-related friction between Scully and Doggett in Season 8. It spiced it up. And Kersh giving Doggett agita was good for the conflict. I also liked the idea of seeing more FBI agents in action on X-Files episodes."

C.Morgan offered a new title for Season 8, “Three Agents and a Baby," and one for Season
4, “The Year Mulder Pried His Head Out of His Ass and Realized Scully is Important to Him."

No one can fault X-Files fans for being without caught without a catch phrase or two. Jerry offered a few of his own in ranking the Seasons including, “Season 8: When Creators Attack" and “Season 7: Like a Comfy Old Sweater." Funmortal argued that Season 7 should be called, “S7--the unbuttoned blouse season" and “S8--the (shudder) Willy season."

Lisa K. offered an intriguing view of Doggett with her survey description of Season 8, “The Season of the Big Dawg or How to Fall in Love Again with Just a Cup of Water." I happen to be a big Doggett fan and felt he lit up the screen with his earnest decency and charm. Lisa feels the X-Files is alive and well with her comment, “As long as the stories are kick-ass, I'll be there."

Sean, another enthusiastic fan, offered the following ratings of the last couple of seasons, “S7 - The Season where the Mytharc Stopped Being the Coolest Part" and “S8 - Doggett Rules." So will Sean be watching now that Mulder’s gone? Sean responded to the following question, “How many more XF seasons would you like to see?" “One less than the number of years I have left to live," sayeth Sean. Why “one less," Sean? What better way to die than watching an episode of the X-Files?

Another Doggett fan, Boondoggler, gave an endorsement to last year’s season 8, “The Season
when I learned to Stop Worrying and Loved Doggett."

No one knows how many more season the X-Files will have, but without a doubt there are
millions of fans who have loved the show in all its incarnations. Two recent additions since Doggett: new agent Monica Reyes who many fans like. And it was just announced that Xena’s Lucy Lawless will be appearing in Season 9. The role she will be playing is “Top Secret," but she will appear in the first two episodes and possibly more. She should make a fantastic addition to the show.
